Military Aggression
Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday summoned the Indian Charge d’Affaires in Islamabad to register a strong diplomatic protest against what it described as “indiscriminate and unprovoked” ceasefire violations committed by Indian forces along the Line of Control (LoC).
The violations reportedly resulted in civilian casualties, including deaths and injuries to women and children in areas of Pakistan-administered Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
In an official statement, the Foreign Office (FO) condemned the cross-border aggression and called the attacks a flagrant breach of international humanitarian law and bilateral agreements, particularly the 2003 ceasefire understanding. “The Indian Charge d’Affaires was summoned to the Ministry to convey Pakistan’s deep concern and strong condemnation of these grave ceasefire violations,” said the FO spokesperson.
The FO emphasized that Indian forces had deliberately targeted civilian populations in border villages, causing unnecessary suffering and destruction. “Targeting innocent civilians, including women and children, is not only a violation of international norms but a morally reprehensible act that must be condemned unequivocally by the international community,” the statement added.
The Pakistani government also reiterated its commitment to peace and regional stability but asserted that it retains the right to respond to provocations in accordance with international law. “Such hostile actions by India threaten peace and security in the region and undermine efforts aimed at achieving stability along the LoC,” the FO said.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours, following recent military engagements and aggressive rhetoric from both sides. Islamabad has called upon India to respect the ceasefire and to refrain from targeting civilian areas.
Pakistan also urged the international community, particularly the United Nations and its observer missions in the region, to take immediate notice of the violations and hold India accountable for escalating hostilities.
The FO concluded by stressing that Pakistan reserves the right to respond firmly to any act of aggression while continuing to pursue diplomatic and peaceful means for conflict resolution.
