Expressing grave concern over the escalating military conflict between Pakistan and India, China on Wednesday called for calm and urged both nations to prioritize peace over provocation.
In an official statement, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the recent Indian military actions against Pakistan as “regrettable,” reaffirming Beijing’s consistent support for regional stability and conflict de-escalation.
“We are seriously concerned about the deteriorating situation in South Asia,” a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said during a regular press briefing. “We urge both Pakistan and India to exercise maximum restraint and avoid actions that could further escalate the conflict.”
The spokesperson emphasized the need for diplomacy and peaceful dialogue as the only viable path to resolving tensions. “Peace must be given a chance first,” the official remarked.
China’s remarks come in the wake of increased military activity along the Line of Control (LoC), following Pakistan’s claim that it downed multiple Indian fighter jets — including Rafale and Sukhoi aircraft — in response to what it described as Indian airspace violations.
Welcoming Beijing’s response, Pakistan’s Foreign Office praised China’s position as “responsible and timely,” acknowledging its significance as a trusted regional partner. Islamabad reiterated its openness to cooperate in investigations related to the Pulwama incident — the justification cited by New Delhi for its earlier strikes.
