In a historic first for Pakistan, police in Sindhโs Shikarpur district conducted a successful drone operation in the Kacha area, resulting in the death of Sheru, a notorious dacoit allegedly involved in the murder of senior journalist Jan Muhammad Mehr.
Shikarpur SSP Shahzaib Chachar briefed the media, stating that the high-stakes operation involved strategically encircling the area and using drone technology to target the suspects. Sheru, who had long evaded law enforcement, was confirmed by police sources to have played a direct role in Mehrโs killing.
Following the drone strike, Shikarpur police launched a broader search operation to track down additional suspects connected to the case.
The assassination of Jan Muhammad Mehr in Sukkur last year sent shockwaves through the journalist community, triggering widespread condemnation and demands for justice. His killing became a rallying point for press freedom advocates and underscored the dangers faced by media professionals in the region.
Authorities say the elimination of Sheru marks a major breakthrough in the investigation. Law enforcement agencies are continuing their efforts to apprehend others linked to the crime.
