The Kremlin on Monday urged India and Pakistan to reduce tensions as hostilities between the two nuclear-armed nations rise following last monthโs deadly attack on tourists in the disputed Kashmir region.
โWe hope that the parties will be able to take measures that will reduce tensions,โ Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters. He emphasized Russiaโs concern over the โtense atmosphere that has developed on the border.โ
The United Nations Security Council is set to convene today to address the growing conflict in South Asia, particularly in the aftermath of the Pahalgam incident. The Councilโs president has described the situation as a serious threat to regional and international peace.
Pakistanโs Foreign Office accused India of escalating the crisis through aggressive actions, warning that these moves risk destabilizing not just South Asia but global security as well.
Islamabad plans to formally brief the UN Security Council on the current situation, highlighting Indiaโs provocative military posture, inflammatory rhetoric, and its unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty โ a move Pakistan considers illegal.
The Foreign Office emphasized that this diplomatic initiative is part of Pakistanโs wider strategy to present its case to the international community using lawful, evidence-based arguments to counter Indiaโs narrative.
