As tensions between India and Pakistan intensify following the recent attack in Pahalgam, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari on Sunday. The meeting, which lasted around 40 minutes, is being interpreted as part of India’s response planning to the April 22 attack that killed 26 people in Indian-administered Kashmir.
Indian media outlets reported no official statement following the meeting. However, the discussion is believed to be tied to security concerns stemming from the Pahalgam incident. This meeting follows earlier consultations held by PM Modi with key security officials, including Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. On May 3, Modi also met with Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi to assess naval readiness and regional security.
Following the Pahalgam attack, Modi convened a high-level security meeting at his residence, attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, NSA Ajit Doval, and the chiefs of Indiaโs armed forces. During the session, Modi reportedly granted the military complete autonomy to decide the nature and timing of any potential retaliatory action.
Meanwhile, India has evacuated more than 10,000 residents from border villages as tensions escalate further.
On Pakistanโs side, Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, along with ISPR Director General Major General Ahmed Sharif, is scheduled to brief national political leaders on security matters. Tarar criticized Indiaโs allegations, calling them baseless, and asserted that Pakistan was not involved in the Pahalgam incident. โIndia must stick to the facts rather than making unfounded accusations,โ he said.
Tarar also warned that any aggression from India would be met with a forceful and comprehensive response. Pakistanโs Ambassador to Russia, Muhammad Khalid Jamali, reaffirmed in a media interview that Pakistan will not tolerate any violation of its sovereignty and will retaliate with full force, including strategic capabilities if necessary.
