ISLAMABAD: A murder suspect opened fire inside a courtroom, killing two witnesses and injuring two others in a shocking breach of security during a hearing on Tuesday.
The incident occurred in the courtroom of Additional Sessions Judge Tahir Aslam during proceedings related to a murder case registered at the Model Town police station. The two victims, Saqib and Ali Butt, were present to testify against the accused when he suddenly drew a weapon and fired at them, killing both on the spot. Two other individuals, Aftab and Usman, sustained injuries in the gunfire.
Panic erupted inside the courtroom as attendees scrambled for safety. Security personnel, assisted by bystanders, managed to overpower and arrest the armed suspect at the scene.
The bodies of the deceased were shifted to the District Hospital for autopsy, while the injured were given immediate medical attention.
Senior police officials, including SSP Operations Rizwan Tariq, SP Civil Lines Muneer Badar, and DSP Civil Lines, arrived at the courthouse shortly after the incident. Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation to determine how the accused managed to smuggle a firearm past court security.
CCTV footage from the premises is being reviewed as part of the ongoing inquiry.
