ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Army on Tuesday shot down an Indian quadcopter after it violated Pakistani airspace along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Manawar sector of Bhimber district, according to security officials.
The officials reported that the drone was engaged in surveillance when it was detected and intercepted by Pakistani forces. Swift action by the troops prevented what was described as a cross-border spying attempt, demonstrating the military’s vigilance and operational readiness.
โThe Pakistan Army remains fully alert and prepared to respond promptly to any act of aggression along the border,โ a security source stated.
The incident comes amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following a deadly attack in Pahalgam, located in Indian-Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The April 22 attack claimed the lives of 26 people, mostly tourists, marking one of the region’s worst tragedies since 2000.
In its aftermath, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) on April 23 โ a landmark water-sharing accord mediated by the World Bank. In response, Pakistan threatened to suspend the 1972 Simla Agreement and consider closing its airspace to Indian flights.
While India has hinted at potential cross-border involvement in the Pahalgam attack, it has not presented any evidence.
Pakistan has strongly rejected the allegations, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif calling for an independent international investigation to establish the facts.
