Pahalgam Attack
The United States has urged India and Pakistan to pursue a โresponsible solutionโ following the rising tensions in the wake of a deadly attack in the Pahalgam area of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
The US State Department confirmed that Washington has been closely monitoring the situation and has reached out to both New Delhi and Islamabad at multiple levels.
A spokesperson for the US State Department communicated to Reuters via email, stating, โThis is an evolving situation, and we are monitoring developments closely. We have been in touch with the governments of India and Pakistan at multiple levels.โ
The spokesperson further emphasized, โThe United States encourages all parties to work together towards a responsible resolution,โ urging both countries to avoid further escalation and pursue diplomatic solutions to address the ongoing crisis.
The deadly attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 tourists, triggered accusations from India, which blamed Pakistan without presenting conclusive evidence.
As a result, India took immediate countermeasures, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and implementing other diplomatic and economic sanctions against Pakistan. These actions have significantly worsened the already strained relations between the two countries.
In retaliation, Pakistan responded by suspending all trade with India, closing its airspace to Indian airlines, and declaring Indian diplomats in Islamabad persona non grata.
Pakistan also proactively reached out to the international community, offering support for an impartial investigation into the attack and briefing foreign ministers around the world on the situation.
In a show of diplomatic solidarity, China reaffirmed its support for Pakistan. The Chinese Foreign Ministry issued a statement expressing full understanding of Pakistanโs legitimate security concerns and reiterated its strong backing for Islamabadโs efforts to protect its sovereignty and security interests.
China also called for a fair and timely investigation into the Pahalgam attack, stressing the importance of impartiality in the inquiry.
Furthermore, China urged both India and Pakistan to exercise patience and pursue dialogue as the path to resolving the outstanding issues between the two nations.
The Chinese Foreign Ministryโs message highlighted the importance of finding peaceful solutions through diplomatic channels, amid escalating tensions that have already led to significant geopolitical challenges.
This international push for peace highlights the global concern over the situation between India and Pakistan, as well as the potential risks of further escalation in a region already fraught with political volatility.
