Another Polio Case Detected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Bringing Total to Two
MASTUNG: Two security officials were martyred after unidentified gunmen targeted a polio vaccination team in the Teri area of Mastung, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The attackers opened fire on the team while they were carrying out their vaccination duties, critically injuring a Levies officer who later succumbed to his injuries. Both martyred personnel were assigned to provide protection to the polio workers.
In the wake of the deadly assault, the polio campaign in Mastung has been suspended indefinitely. Assistant Deputy Commissioner Manan Tareen said the drive was halted due to serious security threats, with no timeline yet for its resumption.
Law enforcement agencies have launched a search operation in the area to apprehend those responsible. Investigations are ongoing.
Second Polio Case of 2025 Confirmed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
In a separate development, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department confirmed another case of polio, bringing the total number of reported cases in the province this year to two.
An 11-year-old boy from Torghar district tested positive for the virus, according to the National Institute of Health’s Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio.
The first case of 2025 was reported earlier this year in Dera Ismail Khan.
Health authorities have urged the public to support ongoing immunization campaigns and reiterated the importance of widespread vaccination to eliminate the virus completely.
