ISLAMABAD: The Karachi Commissioner has imposed a daytime ban on heavy traffic entering the city in an effort to reduce congestion and improve road safety. Under Section 144, all heavy vehicles, including construction material-carrying dumpers, will be prohibited from entering Karachi between 6:00 AM and 10:00 PM.
However, the notification designates specific routes where limited movement will be permitted. These include routes from Super Highway to New Karachi Industrial Area via slip roads, from National Highway to Godam Chowrangi through Manzar Petrol Pump, Younus Chowrangi and Dawood Chowrangi towards Jam Sadiq, as well as from Northern Bypass via Paracha Chowk, State Avenue and Siemens Chowrangi to Ghulbai and Mauripur Road. The decision was made based on recommendations from DIG Traffic to better manage the city’s chronic traffic problems. This marks the latest measure by authorities to regulate vehicle movement in Karachi, where unmanaged heavy traffic has long contributed to congestion and safety issues on major thoroughfares.
The restrictions aim to streamline daytime traffic flow while still allowing essential commercial transportation through approved corridors.
