ISLAMABAD: The federal government has significantly raised the petroleum levy on various fuel products.
According to the details, the levy on petrol has been increased by Rs8.02 per litre, bringing the total to Rs78.02 per litre. Similarly, the levy on high-speed diesel has gone up by Rs7.01 per litre, now totaling Rs77.01 per litre.
For kerosene oil, the levy has been raised by Rs7.99 per litre, reaching Rs18.95 per litre, while the light diesel oil levy has increased by Rs7.62 per litre, bringing it to Rs15.37 per litre.
The High Octane Blending Component (HOBC) also saw a hike of Rs8.02 per litre, taking the total levy to Rs78.02 per litre.
Despite the increased levies, the federal government announced that the retail prices of petroleum products would remain unchanged for the next fortnight. As per a notification issued on Tuesday, petrol will continue to be sold at Rs254.63 per litre, and high-speed diesel will remain at Rs258.64 per litre.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif clarified that, although international oil prices have declined, the government will not reduce domestic fuel prices for now. Instead, the savings will be redirected towards development projects, including the upgrade of the N-25 highway and uplift initiatives in Balochistan.
