PM Shehbaz Sharif to Announce Major Electricity Price Reduction on April 3

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to announce a significant reduction in electricity tariff on April 3 (today), following extensive consultations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

According to sources, the much-anticipated decision comes after negotiations with the IMF regarding a substantial cut in electricity tariffs.

Reports indicate that the government has successfully convinced the IMF to approve a one-rupee-per-unit reduction in tariff disparities. A formal application for this adjustment has already been submitted to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra).

Meeting with Business Leaders

To discuss energy sector reforms, the Prime Minister’s office has invited leading business figures from across the country to a high-level meeting.

The Cabinet members and other key stakeholders will also be in attendance. The meeting, scheduled to take place at the Prime Minister’s office, will provide an opportunity for the business community to engage in detailed discussions on upcoming reforms.

PM to Address the Nation

Sources confirmed that PM Shehbaz will address the nation tomorrow, formally announcing the decision.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif hinted at positive developments, stating on X (formerly Twitter) that the announcement would be the result of efforts since 2022 and divine blessings. He reiterated that serving the people remains the top priority of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and its allies.
