LAHORE: In a bid to enhance security during the busy shopping season leading up to Eid, Lahore police have deployed women’s cycle squads in markets for the first time. This initiative aims to tackle street crime as families flock to commercial areas during the final days of Ramadan.
The police have identified 92 crime hotspots and deployed 1,000 male officers alongside female personnel to bolster security. Special measures have been implemented to protect female shoppers, with female officers and cycle squads—comprising both plainclothes male and female officers—stationed at strategic locations to address harassment incidents. Legal action will be taken against those involved in harassment or misbehavior.
Lahore police have launched an integrated security plan, deploying over 4,000 officers across the city. This includes dedicated patrol teams and specialized monitoring units. Surveillance efforts have been ramped up to focus on repeat offenders and criminal activity, with undercover patrols observing suspicious behavior.
A total of 226 checkpoints have been set up in sensitive areas to prevent crimes, and banking hours have been coordinated with patrol schedules to deter robberies and snatchings. Mobile police teams are also monitoring banks, markets, and bazaars. Additionally, advanced surveillance technologies like night vision binoculars and drone cameras are being used for nighttime monitoring.
Lahore’s Operations DIG Faisal Kamran outlined the security strategy, which includes the deployment of six SPs, 22 sub-divisional officers, 83 SHOs, 473 senior officers, 3,367 constables, and 34 female officers. Patrolling has been intensified on key routes and shopping areas through specialized units such as the Elite Force, Dolphin Squad, and police response teams.
Over 90 hotspots have been identified for targeted surveillance, and 55 locations are being monitored for illegal motorcycle activities. Divisional SPs have been tasked with ensuring a safe environment for families as public activity rises ahead of Eid. The strategy combines technology-driven monitoring and proactive deployments to maintain order.
DIG Kamran encouraged citizens to report suspicious activities or criminal behavior by contacting the Police Helpline at 15.
