Two of India’s largest telecom companies have signed agreements with Elon Musk’s SpaceX to introduce Starlink internet services across the country.
Reliance Jio announced on Wednesday that its partnership with SpaceX aligns with its mission to provide reliable internet access to businesses, enterprises, and communities throughout India.
“The agreement with SpaceX is part of Jio’s commitment to ensuring that reliable internet is fully accessible to all enterprises, small and medium businesses, and communities across India,” the company stated.
Jio also revealed that both companies are exploring additional areas of collaboration to enhance India’s digital infrastructure.
The deal follows a similar agreement signed by Indian telecom giant Bharti Airtel.
Airtel’s Partnership with SpaceX
Bharti Airtel Managing Director and Vice Chairman Gopal Vittal described the agreement as a major step forward.
“Working with SpaceX to offer Starlink to Airtel customers in India is a significant milestone and further demonstrates our commitment to next-generation satellite connectivity,” Vittal said in a statement.
Both deals remain subject to regulatory approvals, as SpaceX awaits authorization to officially launch Starlink services in India.
Musk and Modi’s Meeting
The partnerships come just weeks after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Elon Musk in Washington, DC, during his visit to the United States.
Modi later described their discussions as “good,” highlighting key topics such as space, mobility, technology, and innovation.
