Ukraine could suffer severe consequences if the United States does not resume military aid and intelligence sharing, a senior Republican senator has warned.
“As long as the fighting continues, if we pull the plug on Ukraine, it would be worse than Afghanistan,” Senator Lindsey Graham told Fox News Sunday.
He urged continued support for Kyiv, saying, “Until we have a ceasefire, I would give Ukraine what they need in terms of intelligence and weapons to defend themselves.”
Graham also announced plans to introduce new sanctions targeting Russia’s banking and energy sectors in an effort to pressure Moscow into negotiations.
“If they don’t engage in ceasefire and peace talks with the administration, we should sanction the hell out of them,” he added.
His remarks came just days after the Trump administration halted military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine, a move that has sparked widespread concern among Kyiv’s allies.
On Thursday, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed the pause in US military support, raising fears of a weakened Ukrainian defense.
Though European nations are stepping up aid efforts—including France’s recent $211 million military package—analysts warn that Europe alone lacks the capacity to replace US support.
