As Ramadan approaches, meat prices have surged across Pakistan, placing additional strain on consumers’ budgets.
In Sialkot, the cost of chicken meat has risen by PKR 107 per kg, now reaching PKR 700 per kg. Mutton prices have jumped significantly, rising from PKR 1,800 to PKR 2,700 per kg, while beef has seen an increase from PKR 800 to PKR 1,200 per kg.
In Karachi, chicken meat prices continue to climb, surpassing PKR 700 per kg despite the official price being set at PKR 650 per kg. The price of live chicken has also skyrocketed to PKR 500 per kg.
Poultry chicken meat prices in Islamabad have increased to 770 rupees/kg ahead of the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.
Concerns Mount Over Price Hikes During Ramadan
Poultry shop owners attribute the rising prices to higher costs from farms, while consumers express concern over potential further price hikes as Ramadan draws closer. Many fear that if prices continue to rise unchecked, chicken meat could reach PKR 800 per kg during the holy month, adding to the financial burden on families.
