ISLAMABAD: Awam Pakistan Party chief Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said that while PTI founder Imran Khan’s conduct during his tenure was far from ideal, the current government’s actions have made people overlook his past behavior.
“This government has turned the PTI founder into an angel,” Abbasi remarked.
Abbasi revealed that his party had booked a hall for a two-day conference, but upon arrival, they found the entrance locked with security personnel stationed outside.
“We were told that the information minister had granted permission, yet the venue was shut down,” he said, questioning the government’s motives.
Abbasi said the conference aimed at discussing constitutional supremacy and the rule of law and was not a political rally. He criticized the government for trying to silence opposition voices, calling the move a sign of insecurity and fear.
“The government fears even a simple conversation on the Constitution. Neither the government nor the opposition has fulfilled its responsibilities over the past year,” he said.
Abbasi reiterated that his party stood for constitutional supremacy and the rule of law. He claimed the rigged elections had resulted in an illegitimate government that is now haunted by guilt.
“Our conference was about the rule of law, yet the government panicked over 20 to 30 people discussing national issues around a table,” he said.
Despite the disruption, Abbasi declared the conference a success, stating that all participants agreed on the final declaration. He added that had Maulana Fazlur Rehman been in the country, he would have participated as well.
