Two-time Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman, 95, and his wife Betsy Arakawa, 63, were found dead at their home in New Mexico, according to a report by the Santa Fe New Mexican on Thursday.
Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza confirmed the couple’s death, along with their dog, stating that there were no immediate signs of foul play. Authorities are investigating the cause of death, while local police have yet to issue an official statement.
Hackman, renowned for his intense on-screen presence, won Academy Awards for his roles in the 1971 crime thriller The French Connection and the 1992 western Unforgiven. Over his decades-long career, the former US Marine starred in more than 80 films, along with television and stage productions.
The actor retired from Hollywood in 2004 and settled near Santa Fe, where he focused on writing novels. He married Arakawa, a concert pianist, in 1991, and had three children from his previous marriage.
