Nikki Glaser Got Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s Approval Before Golden Globes Joke

Nikki Glaser revealed she sought Benny Blanco and Selena Gomez’s approval before cracking a joke about the couple at the 2025 Golden Globes.

During her appearance on the Armchair Expert podcast on February 24, Glaser admitted that her boldest joke of the night was directed at Blanco — but only after he gave her the go-ahead.

Detailing her preparation process, the comedian said she reached out to Blanco in a group chat, sending him a voice memo of the joke. Though Blanco was “cool with it,” he asked to run it by Selena first.

During her monologue, Glaser joked, “Selena Gomez is here with Benny Blanco, her new fiancé, and Benny Blanco is here because of the genie who granted him that wish.” She then called him a “lucky guy.”

Glaser explained she wasn’t trying to roast celebrities at the awards show, saying, “I don’t burn people unless I’m hired to do it… Even the Golden Globes wasn’t, like, a burn fest.

The comedian also credited Jimmy Kimmel for advising her to seek consent before making potentially risky jokes.

Quoting Kimmel, she said, “Hey, reach out to people if you have a joke that you’re a little bit worried about.
