Residents of Karachi’s Defence area have called on authorities to take immediate action to evict Armaghan Qureshi, the prime suspect in the Mustafa Amir murder case, from the bungalow he occupies. This demand comes after the residents voiced serious concerns over security in the area.
DIG South Asad Raza confirmed that the police, with assistance from other agencies, will take steps to vacate the property.
The call for Armaghan’s eviction follows the tragic murder of Mustafa Amir, which has caused growing unease among local residents. In a letter to senior officials, they expressed frustration with Armaghan’s presence in the area and demanded that both Armaghan and his father, Kamran Qureshi, be removed from the locality.
The residents also urged authorities to identify the true owner of Bungalow No. 35 and reclaim it from Kamran Qureshi, citing violations of Defence Housing Authority (DHA) regulations. The letter detailed several concerning incidents, including multiple cases of aerial firing, which have contributed to a climate of fear in the neighborhood.
Additionally, the residents alleged that wild animals, such as lions, were illegally kept in the bungalow between 2023 and 2024. They also claimed that Armaghan employed over 100 private security guards, who allegedly harassed women and domestic workers in the vicinity. The letter further mentioned a gunfight on February 8, where Armaghan reportedly exchanged fire with the police, leaving residents trapped in their homes.
DIG South’s Response
DIG South Asad Raza acknowledged the residents’ concerns after receiving the complaint on February 21. He assured the public that authorities had already initiated action and that the bungalow would be vacated with help from other agencies. Raza also stated that violations of DHA regulations would be addressed after consultations with relevant institutions.
Allegations of Police Facilitation
Meanwhile, ASI Nadeem of the Gizri Police Station faced questioning over allegations of facilitating Armaghan. However, the CIA police released him after interrogation. Sources in the CIA confirmed that Nadeem may be called for further questioning if needed. During his interrogation, Nadeem clarified that while Armaghan had legal cases, he had secured bail in all of them. He maintained that his interactions with Armaghan were strictly for investigative purposes and denied any involvement in illegal activities.
The Mustafa Amir Murder Case: Key Developments
The murder of Mustafa Amir, a 23-year-old resident of DHA, has dominated local news. Mustafa was allegedly abducted on January 6, and the case gained widespread attention after a press conference held by the Sindh police. His charred body was recovered six days later by the Balochistan police and handed over to the Edhi Foundation.
Police investigations revealed that Mustafa’s friends were involved in his kidnapping and killing. Sheraz, one of the friends, allegedly confessed to the crime during the investigation, which led to the arrest of the prime suspect, Armaghan Qureshi, after a ransom call was made to Mustafa’s family. The police also engaged in a gun battle with Armaghan during the arrest, which lasted for several hours.
As the investigation unfolded, it was revealed that the conflict between Mustafa and Armaghan stemmed from a dispute over a woman. Mustafa’s mother also accused the same woman of being responsible for her son’s death in a video statement, claiming that the woman fled to the United States after the incident.
On February 15, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) sent Sheraz to police custody, while Armaghan’s remand was delayed. Legal experts clarified that the delay was due to procedural issues, and the case would come under the jurisdiction of the ATC after an addition of terrorism-related charges to the FIR.
Armaghan is known to have a criminal history, with records showing involvement in extortion, kidnapping, drug dealing, and illegal weapon possession. Police have also uncovered evidence linking the suspect to money laundering activities.
In a recent media appearance, Kamran Qureshi, Armaghan’s father, defended his son’s actions and accused a police officer of conspiring against them. Meanwhile, Armaghan’s involvement in the murder has been confirmed through DNA testing, with the victim’s body identified as Mustafa Amir.
The investigation continues as authorities work to piece together the details of this high-profile case.
