Third Polio Case of 2025 Confirmed in Larkana, Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The third polio case of 2025 has been reported in Larkana district, Sindh, highlighting the persistent threat of the wild poliovirus (WPV1) in Pakistan.

The National Institute of Health (NIH) confirmed the case after laboratory tests detected wild poliovirus type 1 in the infected child’s samples. This marks the latest in a series of polio cases this year, following reports in Dera Ismail Khan and Badin.

Urgent Calls for Vaccination

The Polio National Emergency Operation Center has renewed its appeal to parents, stressing that multiple polio vaccine doses are essential to build immunity against the virus.

Health experts warn that children under five are at high risk of contracting the crippling disease if they miss routine immunizations.

Pakistan’s Ongoing Polio Battle

Despite nationwide vaccination efforts, Pakistan remains one of the last polio-endemic countries. Authorities are urging enhanced surveillance, stronger immunization campaigns, and greater public cooperation to eradicate the virus permanently.
