ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has successfully linked Pakistan to the Africa-1 submarine cable, marking a significant step in strengthening the country’s digital and telecom infrastructure.
The high-capacity cable system, designed for large-scale data transmission, is now connected to PTCL’s exchange in Karachi, ensuring faster and more reliable international connectivity.
As a formal member of the Africa-1 Cable System Consortium, PTCL is collaborating to expand Pakistan’s access to global digital hubs and enhance its telecommunications network.
Spanning 10,000 kilometers, the Africa-1 cable system integrates cutting-edge digital technologies and will connect Pakistan to key strategic locations, including:
- Saudi Arabia
- United Arab Emirates
- Egypt
- Sudan
- Algeria
- France
- Kenya
- Djibouti
Syed Muhammad Shoaib, PTCL’s Group Vice President for International Business, highlighted the project’s alignment with Pakistan’s ‘Digital Vision 2030’.
“We are dedicated to bridging the digital divide, driving innovation across industries, and strengthening Pakistan’s economy. The Africa-1 cable system will significantly enhance internet speed, reliability, and global connectivity,” he stated.
The Africa-1 cable system is set to become operational by early 2026, delivering world-class internet services to businesses and consumers in Pakistan.
