The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced plans to rename the historic Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar in honor of Imran Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has given his approval for the renaming, and a summary has been prepared by the provincial sports ministry. The proposal is expected to be presented for final approval at the upcoming cabinet meeting on Friday.
A spokesperson for the KP government confirmed that, in addition to the renaming, significant renovation and beautification work is underway at the stadium. “With the approval of the provincial government, substantial upgrades are being made to improve the stadium’s infrastructure,” the spokesperson stated.
Arbab Niaz Stadium, one of Pakistan’s iconic cricket venues, was originally named after Arbab Niaz, a former mayor of Peshawar and federal minister.
