Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is grappling with a severe operational crisis, as a shortage of spare parts has left several of its aircraft grounded.
Sources indicate that only 19 out of PIA’s 34 aircraft, including models from Airbus, Boeing, and ATR, are currently operational, while the rest remain inactive. The situation has been exacerbated by the airline’s failure to acquire essential spare parts, including aircraft engines, in a timely manner.
In a bid to keep some aircraft in service, PIA has been forced to cannibalize parts from grounded planes, according to insiders. Despite this ongoing crisis, the airline continues to pay millions of dollars in lease payments for aircraft that are not in use. The extended grounding of several planes has further worsened PIA’s already strained financial condition.
