ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is expected to reduce the electricity tariff by Rs2 per unit as part of the fuel cost adjustment (FCA) for January 2025.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency Guarantee Limited (CPPA-G) has submitted an application proposing a refund of Rs2.32 per unit to electricity consumers, reflecting the lower fuel costs for January.
Representing Ex-Wapda Distribution Companies, the CPPA has filed a petition seeking NEPRA’s approval to provide this relief.
A public hearing to decide on the tariff reduction is scheduled for February 27.
In its petition, the CPPA reported that over 7.816 billion units of electricity were generated in January. Consumers were billed a reference fuel cost of Rs13.1 per unit, while the actual generation cost was Rs10.78 per unit. The CPPA-G has requested that the Rs2.32 per unit difference be refunded to consumers through their electricity bills.
The petition further detailed the energy mix for January:
- 10.63% of electricity was generated from hydropower.
- 15.56% came from local coal and 8.53% from imported coal.
- 1.53% was produced using furnace oil, 13.11% from local gas, and 18.92% from imported LNG.
- Nuclear power contributed the largest share, producing 26.61% of the total electricity.
