ISLAMABAD: New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 after suffering a foot injury during a warm-up match against Afghanistan in Karachi on Sunday.
Ferguson experienced pain in his right foot following a bowling spell, and after an initial medical assessment, it was confirmed that he would not be fit for the rest of the tournament. Given the Champions Trophyโs short duration, the decision was made to send Ferguson home for rehabilitation.
To replace Ferguson, Canterbury Kings fast bowler Kyle Jamieson will join the Blackcaps squad and depart for Pakistan this evening. Jamieson made a successful return to domestic cricket in December after a 10-month rehabilitation for a stress fracture in his back.
In the Dream11 Super Smash, Jamieson played a key role in Canterbury Kings’ Grand Final run, finishing as one of the joint second-leading wicket-takers with 14 wickets, including a standout performance of 4-12 against Central Stags. He also contributed in the Ford Trophy, helping Canterbury defeat Northern Districts.
New Zealand head coach Gary Stead expressed disappointment over Fergusonโs injury, acknowledging the significant role Fergusonโs experience and contributions play within the team.
