Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, announced that his startup xAI will launch the Grok 3 chatbot on Monday, touting it as the “smartest AI on Earth” in the rapidly growing and competitive AI market. The highly anticipated artificial intelligence product will go live with a demonstration at 8:00 PM Pacific time (0400 GMT), Musk shared on his social media platform, X, on Saturday.
Grok 3, which was trained using synthetic data, has the unique ability to review its own errors and make adjustments by analyzing data to achieve logical consistency. Musk mentioned that he and his team would be refining the product over the weekend in preparation for the launch.
xAI is entering an increasingly crowded field with competitors like OpenAIโs ChatGPT and a new challenge from Chinese startup DeepSeek, which recently gained significant traction by launching a low-cost, high-quality chatbot. DeepSeekโs rapid rise led to it surpassing ChatGPT in downloads on the Apple app store.
Musk, who has often cautioned about the potential dangers of AI for humanity, remains focused on securing a larger share of the booming industry despite the risks. xAI raised $6 billion in December from investors including U.S. venture capital firms, chipmakers Nvidia and AMD, and investment funds from Saudi Arabia and Qatar. This funding follows a similar $6 billion round in May. Despite being one of the most valuable startups globally, xAI is still far behind OpenAI in terms of market influence.
Musk founded xAI in July 2023, shortly after signing an open letter urging a pause in the development of powerful AI systems. On Friday, OpenAI’s board rejected Muskโs $97.4 billion offer to buy the company.
