ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) immigration circle prevented an attempt to smuggle four women to Saudi Arabia under the guise of Umrah pilgrimage at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi.
Initially believed to be Umrah pilgrims, the women were actually being trafficked for forced labor, according to FIA officials.
During the operation, Shazia Bano, Zamira Azeem, Lubna, and Sana Shehzadi were detained as they attempted to board an Umrah flight. Further investigations revealed that they had previously traveled to Saudi Arabia under similar circumstances.
Authorities have traced the trafficking operation to Asiya, a former Punjab police officer, who allegedly financed their travel. In Saudi Arabia, a facilitator named Waseem Gujar was responsible for their accommodation and financial matters.
FIA is currently interrogating the women to uncover further details about the trafficking network and those involved.
