ISLAMABAD: Comedian Samay Raina has announced that he has removed all episodes of his show India’s Got Latent from his YouTube channel following backlash over “indecent jokes” made in a recent episode featuring Ranveer Allahbadia.
In a social media post, Raina said, “Everything that has been happening has been too much for me to handle. I have removed all India’s Got Latent videos from my channel.”
He added, “My only objective was to make people laugh and have a good time. I will fully cooperate with all agencies to ensure their inquiries are concluded fairly. Thank you (sic).”
Raina’s statement comes after widespread criticism over an “inappropriate joke” made by YouTuber Allahbadia during the last episode, which aired three days ago.
On Tuesday, YouTube took down the episode featuring Allahbadia after the Indian government issued a notice regarding the content. Following the removal, Mumbai Police summoned both Allahbadia and Raina for questioning in relation to the controversy.
Kanchan Gupta, a senior adviser to the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, confirmed on X that the episode was blocked due to government orders, sharing a screenshot that showed its unavailability on YouTube.
In response to the backlash, Allahbadia issued an apology, admitting that his comments were “not only inappropriate but also unfunny.” He further acknowledged that comedy is not his “strong suit.”
The Mumbai Police are leading the investigation into the matter and have received complaints against several individuals involved in the episode, including YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani and influencer Apoorva Makhija, known as The Rebel Kid.
