The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has dispatched a fresh supply of emergency medicines to Upper Kurram while continuing its helicopter relief operations, announced provincial health adviser Ehtesham Khan on Monday.
Over 500kg of emergency medicines, donated by various NGOs and charity organizations, are being airlifted to the region via the provincial government’s MI-17 helicopter. The supplies will be handed over to the medical superintendent in Parachinar.
Despite ongoing relief efforts, Khan criticized the federal government for its lack of support, stating that no medicines or financial aid had been provided. “The people of Kurram are still waiting for assistance from the center, but nothing has arrived,” he added.
In the meantime, local authorities reported that over 230 individuals have been evacuated via helicopter, with more flights continuing. Additionally, more than 1,200 patients have received medical treatment as part of the ongoing relief efforts.
To restore peace in the region, district officials and tribal elders are in discussions to enforce a recent security agreement. The administration has confirmed the demolition of bunkers in Piwar and Balish Khel to improve stability.
Last week, authorities in Kurram district demolished four additional bunkers as part of their ongoing efforts to implement a local peace agreement. Rival factions are set to hold another round of talks in Peshawar today.
District officials confirmed that the removal of bunkers, including those in Balish Khel and Anarkali, is progressing as per the agreement, with explosives being used for the demolitions. The authorities remain committed to enforcing the Kohat peace accord, which aims to stabilize the region, and are introducing measures such as escorted convoys to ensure public safety.
