Google Messages is set to introduce an exciting new feature that will allow users to make video calls directly through the app, as revealed by an APK teardown of its latest version.
The upcoming integration will let users initiate WhatsApp video calls directly from the Google Messages interface. If both the sender and recipient have WhatsApp installed, a new video call icon will appear in the top-right menu. Tapping on this icon will instantly start a WhatsApp video call.
At launch, this feature will only support one-on-one chats. For group chats or when the recipient doesn’t have WhatsApp, the video call option will default to Google Meet.
The functionality may evolve before its official release, and it’s expected that users will have the choice between using WhatsApp or Google Meet for video calls, offering more flexibility based on personal preference or the app availability of their contacts.
Although the exact release date remains unknown, the feature is actively being developed and is expected to roll out in the coming weeks.
