Baloch Students
QUETTA: Students from Turbat University, located in Balochistan’s Kech district, have achieved a significant milestone by developing a state-of-the-art mobile application called “Shanakht,” designed to aid the local police force in fighting crime.
The app provides the district police with swift access to vital information about suspects involved in criminal activities or fugitives, making it an invaluable tool for law enforcement in their efforts to apprehend offenders.
The development of the app took four months and was officially handed over to the District Kech Police upon completion.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Kech, Rashid-ur-Rehman, expressed his appreciation for the students’ dedication and innovation in creating the app. He awarded them certificates as a token of recognition for their hard work and contribution to the enhancement of the district’s policing capabilities.
The introduction of this mobile application marks a significant advancement in the use of technology in crime prevention within the region.
The “Shanakht” app is designed specifically for crime prevention, enabling the police to efficiently access detailed records and track criminal suspects. This is expected to improve the efficiency and speed of investigations, helping law enforcement officers make informed decisions in real-time.
This initiative follows the launch of a similar technology-driven crime-fighting tool by the Sindh police in 2022. The “Talash (search) App,” introduced by the Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ghulam Nabi Memon, was developed to combat the rising street crimes in Karachi.
At the launch ceremony, Memon emphasized that the app was part of a broader effort to enhance the police’s capacity to prevent crimes using modern technological tools.
The Sindh police chief expressed his hope that the “Talash” app would serve as an effective weapon against criminal activities, including terrorism and street crime, ensuring that criminals would not be able to evade law enforcement.
Both the “Shanakht” and “Talash” apps represent a growing trend of integrating technology into law enforcement practices to fight crime more efficiently and effectively, and they highlight the critical role that innovation and technology play in modern policing strategies.
