The temperature in Karachi dropped to 9°C on Monday, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasting cold and dry weather for the next 24 hours.
According to the PMD, the port city’s minimum temperature is expected to remain between 7°C and 9°C, accompanied by winds blowing at 5 km/h from the northeast and a humidity level of 63%.
The cold wave affecting Karachi is partly attributed to the freezing temperatures in Quetta, where the mercury plunged to -7°C. This drop in Quetta is often linked to the cold spells experienced in Karachi.
Earlier, Karachi witnessed its first winter rain of the season on January 4, with drizzle and light showers reported in several areas. The PMD had predicted that the rainfall would intensify the prevailing cold weather due to the influence of westerly winds.
Elsewhere in Balochistan, the PMD reported a minimum temperature of -10°C in Kalat and -9°C in Ziarat on Monday. Most districts in the province are expected to experience cold and dry conditions, while the mountainous areas are likely to face extreme cold.
The current weather conditions underscore the impact of western disturbances bringing significant drops in temperatures across the region.
