Pakistan is set to experience a rare celestial event in 2025โa total lunar eclipse, popularly known as a โBlood Moon.โ This extraordinary phenomenon will occur on the night of September 7, extending into the early hours of September 8, providing a stunning visual treat for astronomy enthusiasts across the country.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), 2025 will feature four eclipsesโtwo lunar and two solar. However, Pakistan will only have the privilege of witnessing the September total lunar eclipse due to its geographic location.
The “Blood Moon” derives its name from the reddish glow the moon takes on during a total lunar eclipse. This effect occurs when the Earth’s atmosphere scatters sunlight, allowing only red wavelengths to illuminate the moon.
The other three eclipsesโa total lunar eclipse on March 14 and partial solar eclipses on March 29 and September 21โwill be visible in various parts of the world, including Europe, Africa, and the Americas.
The PMD has urged the public to mark their calendars and prepare to observe this rare celestial display. Additional details regarding viewing times in specific regions of Pakistan will be shared as the event approaches.
