Imran Khan
Jailed former prime minister Imran Khan has firmly rejected the government’s demand to withdraw his call for a civil disobedience movement.
According to sources, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder instructed his party to continue negotiations with the ruling coalition while maintaining the civil disobedience stance until concrete actions are taken by the government.
Khan emphasized that the withdrawal of the movement would only be considered if the government demonstrates a “genuine commitment” to engaging in meaningful dialogue.
He called for the swift formation of a judicial commission to investigate the key events of May 9 and November 26, expressing concerns that delays could derail progress.
The former prime minister underscored the urgency for the negotiations to move forward “swiftly and meaningfully” to address pressing political issues.
Earlier in the day, former first lady Bushra Bibi, along with several senior PTI leaders, visited Imran Khan at Adiala Jail.
The meeting highlighted the party’s continued efforts to ensure coordination with their incarcerated leader despite restrictions.
Sources revealed that Khan has appointed Sahibzada Hamid Raza, a prominent Sunni Ittehad Council leader, as the official spokesperson for the negotiation committee.
The decision was also confirmed by PTI lawyer Faisal Chaudhry, who shared updates with the media regarding the party’s strategy.
PTI Secretary Information Sheikh Waqas Akram reiterated the importance of direct communication with Khan to facilitate meaningful discussions.
He appealed to the government to ease restrictions on the former prime minister, allowing PTI leaders to engage with him more effectively.
Imran Khan’s firm stance on the civil disobedience movement reflects his determination to hold the government accountable while ensuring that his party remains aligned on key political objectives.
The developments mark a critical juncture in Pakistan’s political landscape, with the success of negotiations hinging on mutual trust and the government’s willingness to meet PTI’s demands.
