Polio Vaccination Team

A polio vaccination team was attacked on Thursday in Karachi, within the jurisdiction of Korangi police station, resulting in injuries to two polio workers and a policeman.

The assault was carried out by a family using shovels as their weapon of choice, in a violent disruption of the ongoing vaccination campaign aimed at eradicating polio in the area.

In response to the attack, authorities acted swiftly to apprehend the individuals involved in the assault. A total of six people were arrested, including four women, in connection with the violence.

Following the incident, a heavy contingent of police officers and Rangers was deployed to the site to restore law and order, ensuring that the situation did not escalate further.

The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for the Korangi district confirmed the arrests and assured the public that strict legal action would be taken against the individuals responsible for the attack.

The authorities have reiterated their commitment to protecting polio vaccination teams, who are working tirelessly to protect children from the disease, despite facing such violent incidents.

The injured polio workers and the policeman were immediately provided with medical attention, and their injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

Local health officials and law enforcement agencies continue to monitor the situation closely, ensuring that the vaccination campaign can continue without further disruption.

This incident is a stark reminder of the challenges faced by polio vaccination teams in some areas, where misinformation and resistance to vaccination efforts often lead to violence.

Despite these challenges, health and law enforcement officials remain resolute in their mission to eradicate polio and protect children from preventable diseases.

The swift response by the authorities underscores the importance of maintaining peace and security in such vital public health initiatives.
