Black Magic
The Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Department of Sindh has issued a public notice that mandates the replacement of number plates for all vehicles, both commercial and private, across the province.
This new policy is part of the government’s efforts to improve vehicle identification and enhance safety standards.
Under the new regulation, private vehicles will be required to display white number plates with a unique design inspired by the Sindhi Ajrak, a traditional block-printed fabric pattern that holds cultural significance in the region.
On the other hand, commercial vehicles must adopt yellow number plates, also featuring the distinctive Ajrak design. This move is aimed at creating a more uniform and recognizable vehicle registration system throughout Sindh.
The Sindh Excise Department has set a clear deadline for the enforcement of these changes: after April 3, 2025, vehicles with the old yellow number plates on private vehicles and black number plates on commercial vehicles will no longer be accepted.
This decision highlights the government’s commitment to modernizing the vehicle registration system and improving the overall security and tracking of vehicles in the province.
In addition to the aesthetic and identification improvements, the new number plates are expected to aid law enforcement agencies in tracking and managing vehicles more efficiently, ensuring a safer environment on the roads.
Vehicle owners are urged to replace their old number plates before the April 3, 2025, deadline. Failure to comply with the new rule will result in the invalidation of the old plates, and vehicles without the updated plates will face legal consequences.
The Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Department has emphasized the mandatory nature of this policy and has urged all vehicle owners to make the necessary arrangements for the replacement of their number plates well in advance.
The department has also assured that the new number plates will be easily accessible to all vehicle owners through designated issuing authorities.
