‘All Is Well’ Remark
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sher Afzal Marwat stated on Monday that Imran Khan’s ‘all is well’ statement had negatively impacted the party’s efforts to engage in negotiations with the government.
Speaking on the program Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath, Marwat expressed his view that the circumstances surrounding the statement had rendered the PTI negotiation committee ineffective. He clarified that this was his personal opinion.
According to Marwat, the timing of Khan’s statement, which came after the formation of the negotiation committee, caused some damage to the party’s ability to initiate talks. “The circumstances in which Khan has given the statement after the negotiation committee was formed have caused some damage. I believe it rendered the negotiating committee worthless,” he said.
Imran Khan, currently imprisoned, had expressed his dissatisfaction with the party’s leadership last Thursday. He criticized the lack of strategic planning to protest at D-Chowk and raised concerns about the atmosphere outside the prison.
Referring to news reports, Khan said he got the impression that there was a friendly and complacent environment among party members. “When I saw the news in the newspapers, I got the impression that there was a friendly atmosphere outside the prison and everyone was living happily,” Khan remarked.
Khan also voiced disappointment over the PTI’s failure to address the D-Chowk issue in parliament and other forums, adding that he expected the matter to be raised more forcefully.
He expressed surprise at the party’s behavior, stating, “I am amazed at the [PTI] leadership. If one case ends, another begins. The party should have reacted strongly.”
Marwat further revealed that after forming the negotiation committee, Khan did not provide specific instructions regarding the initiation of talks. This lack of communication created assumptions and misunderstandings, leading to a delay in negotiations. “Due to this, Khan made an assumption due to a communication gap,” he explained.
The PTI leader acknowledged that efforts are now underway to restart the negotiations, which were disrupted on November 22 and suffered further setbacks on November 26. He emphasized that the talks should not have been delayed and expressed hope for progress despite the initial setbacks.
