Saudi Arabia strongly condemned Israel’s recent approval of a plan to double the population in the occupied Golan Heights. The Israeli government has approved an $11 million initiative aimed at increasing the demographic presence in the region, a move it justified due to the ongoing war and the need to bolster its position in Syria. The plan’s goal is to grow the population of the annexed Golan Heights in light of the new front in Syria.
Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement calling for international condemnation of Israel’s actions. It emphasized the importance of respecting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and reaffirmed that the Golan Heights remains occupied Syrian Arab land. The Kingdom also criticized Israel for undermining Syria’s efforts to regain security and stability in the region.
Since Israel took control of most of the Golan Heights during the 1967 Six-Day War, it has maintained occupation, annexing the territory in 1981. This annexation has only been recognized by the United States, and the move remains a point of contention in international discussions about the region.
The Saudi government reiterated its stance on the need for global action against Israel’s actions in the Golan Heights and other territories, urging the international community to uphold international law and hold Israel accountable for its violations.
