A recent Israeli airstrike in Gaza’s Nuseirat camp resulted in the deaths of Palestinian journalist Ahmed Al-Louh and five Civil Defence workers. Al-Louh, a cameraman for Al Jazeera and other media outlets, was on duty wearing a press vest and helmet when the strike occurred on Sunday. He was rushed to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir el-Balah but could not be saved.
This attack is an example of the Israeli occupation’s systematic targeting of journalists. The network urged human rights and media organizations to demand justice for these killings and to hold Israeli authorities accountable under international law. Al-Louh had been covering the ongoing conflict in Gaza since October 2023, working alongside Civil Defence teams to document the destruction caused by the Israeli military.
This marks the third journalist death in Gaza within 24 hours, as other journalists, including Mohammed Jabr al-Qrinawi and Mohammed Balousha, also lost their lives in recent Israeli strikes. Since the beginning of Israel’s military campaign, at least 195 journalists have been killed in Gaza.
The Civil Defence service, which serves the community regardless of political affiliation, was also targeted, with the head of the emergency service, Nedal Abu Hjayyer, confirmed dead in the attack. Israel’s military has said it is investigating the incident.
Other Israeli strikes on Sunday resulted in numerous casualties across Gaza, including attacks on residential areas in Beit Lahiya, Beit Hanoon, and Jabalia, and the bombing of a school sheltering displaced persons, killing at least 15. The ongoing violence has claimed the lives of over 44,976 Palestinians since October 7, 2023, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
