ISLAMABAD: To improve public health outcomes by ensuring higher milk quality, FrieslandCampina Engro Pakistan Limited (PSX: FECPL) has introduced an innovative pilot project, the “Islamabad Safe Milk City.”
The proposal was presented during a meeting with Federal Minister for National Food Security & Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, in Islamabad.
Focus on Dairy Sector Development
The meeting centered on FrieslandCampina Engro’s plans for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Pakistan’s agriculture sector. Discussions highlighted strategies to boost milk production, improve livestock genetics, and empower farmers through capacity-building programs. Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain emphasized Pakistan’s vast potential for FDI in the dairy sector, including opportunities for local production of infant formula and powdered milk to reduce reliance on imports. He underscored the importance of public-private partnerships to achieve self-sufficiency, conserve foreign exchange, and drive growth in the dairy industry.
FrieslandCampina’s Commitment to Pakistan
Since entering the Pakistani market in 2016, FrieslandCampina, a globally recognized cooperative, has invested millions of dollars. The company highlighted its large-scale dairy farming operations in Sukkur, Sindh, as an example of its commitment to the sector.
FrieslandCampina also pledged to transfer advanced technologies and international best practices to elevate Pakistan’s dairy sector standards.
Government Support for Dairy Initiatives
Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain assured his full support for initiatives aimed at strengthening the dairy industry. He emphasized the importance of equitable benefits for all stakeholders and affirmed the government’s readiness to collaborate with private enterprises in fostering sustainable growth in the sector.
