It Won’t Be Surprising if Jailed Ex-PM Imran Khan Is Taken into Military Custody: Vawda

Independent Senator Faisal Vawda stated on Tuesday that it would not be surprising if jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan were transferred into military custody, especially following the charge sheet against former ISI chief Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed.

Vawda emphasized that the charge sheet against Hameed proves that no one, regardless of their position, is above the law. Earlier in the day, the military’s media wing confirmed that Hameed had been formally indicted on charges of engaging in political activities.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement outlined several allegations against Hameed, including violations of the Official Secrets Act, misuse of authority and government resources, and actions that caused harm to individuals and the state’s interests.

Vawda, known for his political predictions, also linked the civil disobedience movement by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to Hameed’s trial. He argued that it was “untenable” for one individual to be tried while their associates remain unaccountable. Referring to the events of May 9, Vawda claimed that Hameed, PTI founder Imran Khan, and Bushra Bibi are all interconnected. The ISPR’s statement mentioned Hameed’s involvement in instigating unrest, particularly in relation to the May 9, 2023, protests, which followed Khan’s arrest and led to widespread violence and damage to public and military property.

Vawda further alleged that Bushra Bibi had been attempting to harm Imran Khan, stating that his efforts to protect Khan had led to his “expulsion” from the party.
