ISLAMABAD: Federal Energy Minister Owais Leghari announced that Pakistan and Russia will launch a trial freight train service in March 2025, marking a significant milestone in strengthening the economic and political ties between the two countries.
Speaking about the evolving relationship, Minister Leghari emphasized that Pakistan’s engagement with Russia is based on national interests and not influenced by external pressures. “Our partnership with Russia is driven by Pakistan’s own interests and is not dictated by any outside forces,” he said.
He also rejected the notion of framing Pakistan-Russia relations within the context of East-West dynamics, underscoring that Pakistan remains open to collaboration with all global partners for mutual benefit.
Leghari highlighted that both Russia and China are actively supporting Pakistan in various sectors, in line with the country’s development objectives.
The upcoming trial freight train service is expected to improve connectivity and trade, heralding a new chapter in the growing bilateral relationship between Pakistan and Russia.
