Seven Cases
Former First Lady Bushra Bibi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, and several other senior leaders from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have been booked in a series of seven new cases in Attock, Punjab, following the violent protests that erupted across the country.
The FIRs were lodged across three different police stations in the region and cover a wide range of charges, including terrorism, attempt to murder, vandalism, and more.
The cases registered against the PTI leaders stem from accusations related to the November 23 protests, during which the demonstrators allegedly engaged in violent activities.
The protestors, including Bushra Bibi, were accused of forcibly taking tear gas, anti-riot kits, and mobile phones from police officers. These actions led to the registration of cases under 23 different sections of the law, underscoring the severity of the alleged offenses.
In addition to the protests, Bushra Bibi, along with other PTI figures, has been named in two additional cases filed in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur.
These cases came about after a video statement by Bushra Bibi went viral, in which she allegedly made inflammatory remarks intended to provoke public sentiment.
The statement, according to police, was directed at stirring public emotions and specifically targeted Saudi Arabia, playing on controversial issues to create unrest.
The cases against Bushra Bibi in particular have been filed under the Telegraph Act of 1885, a colonial-era law, as well as under Section 126, which deals with the transmission of messages that may incite or encourage unrest.
The authorities assert that the intention behind her statements was not only to incite public anger but to create divisions within the country.
The police have initiated proceedings under these laws, and legal actions are expected to follow.
These legal moves against the PTI leadership, particularly Bushra Bibi and Ali Amin Gandapur, are seen as part of a broader crackdown in response to the ongoing political unrest in the country.
The cases are likely to have significant political and legal ramifications as the situation continues to develop.
