For the first time, the UAE will be represented at the Miss Universe pageant, with Emilia Dobreva. She is a famous model and mother of three, taking the stage after being crowned Miss Universe UAE in a private audition held in October.
Poppy Capella, the UAE’s national director for Miss Universe, appointed by the Miss Universe Organization, praised Emilia as the ideal candidate.
“She has lived in the UAE for over a decade, is married to an Emirati, speaks Arabic fluently, and embodies beauty, intelligence, and cultural understanding,” Capella stated.
Emilia will compete alongside contestants from 130 countries at the Miss Universe grand finale in Mexico City on November 16. She will showcase a unique abaya during the national costume round, designed to reflect the UAE’s rich heritage and modern achievements.
“The abaya will feature real sand from the UAE at its base, symbolizing the country’s origins, while the top part will highlight its modernity,” Capella explained. “It’s a design that truly captures the essence of how the UAE has transformed from desert sands to a global hub.”
This year’s competition reflects Miss Universe’s evolution into a more inclusive platform. Last year, the organization lifted restrictions on age, height, weight, and marital status, empowering a broader spectrum of women. Alongside the UAE, nine other nations will make their debut, including Somalia, represented by its first hijabi contestant.
Respect for UAE cultural values is a priority. Emilia will wear a burqini—a fully covered swimsuit—in the swimwear round and maintain modest attire throughout the competition, Capella emphasized.
The Miss Universe UAE crown, dubbed the “Palm of Inclusion,” adds to the event’s splendor. Crafted by luxury jeweler Mouwad, the stunning piece is valued at Dh15 million.
