Dr Lubna
Punjab University’s Professor Dr. Lubna Zaheer, Chairperson of the Film and Broadcasting Department, represented Pakistan at a prestigious international conference held in Japan.
As the only Pakistani professor among the distinguished participants, Dr. Zaheer joined a gathering of delegates and scholars from 32 countries, highlighting Pakistan’s presence in the global academic and media landscape.
During the conference, Dr. Zaheer delivered an insightful address on the financial and security challenges facing journalists, particularly in South Asia, with a strong emphasis on the situation in Pakistan.
She underscored the pressing need for professional training programs designed to equip journalists with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate the dangerous environments in which they often operate.
According to Dr. Zaheer, such initiatives would significantly raise journalistic standards while simultaneously enhancing the safety and protection of reporters working in high-risk areas.
Dr. Zaheer’s speech resonated with many participants as she articulated the complexities of working as a journalist in conflict zones and politically unstable regions.
She drew attention to the economic struggles that often accompany journalism in these areas, which can further exacerbate the dangers faced by media professionals.
In particular, she called for regional collaboration in South Asia to address these issues collectively and ensure the sustainability and safety of free press systems.
In addition to her contributions to the conference, Dr. Zaheer took the opportunity to visit the Pakistani Embassy in Tokyo, where she met with Ambassador Mr. Raza Tarar.
Their meeting explored potential collaborative ventures between Pakistan and Japan, focusing on strengthening academic and media-related exchanges between institutions in both countries.
This discussion reflected the growing interest in fostering international partnerships that could lead to enriching experiences for both Pakistani and Japanese scholars, as well as opportunities for professional development in media industries.
Dr. Lubna Zaheer’s active participation and thought leadership at the conference served to underscore Pakistan’s ongoing commitment to advancing media standards and fostering global collaboration.
Her engagement not only highlighted critical issues faced by journalists in South Asia but also paved the way for future academic exchanges and professional growth between Pakistan and Japan.
Through her efforts, Dr. Zaheer continues to play a vital role in enhancing the visibility of Pakistan on the global academic stage while advocating for the betterment of the media profession.
