The apple of Consumer’s eye: Apple working on iPad Pro with wireless charging, new iPad Mini

iPad sales scored a better-than-expected $7.8 billion last quarter, in the pandemic.

Apple thrived through the Covid-19 pandemic as home-bound consumers stocked up on electronic devices.

In an attempt to build upon momentum for a category that saw improved sales during the pandemic, Apple is working on a new iPad Pro with wireless charging and a redesigned iPad Mini, Bloomberg News reported on Friday.

In 2022, the company is looking to release the new iPad Pro and the iPad Mini will be released later this year, the report said, citing people familiar with the matter.

The company flourished during the pandemic as the home-bound consumers stocked up on electronic devices, with iPad sales scoring a better-than-expected $7.8 billion last quarter.

The report says that the iPhone maker is planning narrower screen borders for the new iPad Mini and also looking at removing its home button.

For the first time, Apple is testing a glass back for the iPad Pro to enable wireless charging and also attempting to try out reverse wireless charging, Bloomberg News said.

Before next year’s launch the designs for the new iPad Pro could change or be canceled even as they are in early stages now, the report added.

For comments outside business hours, Apple did not immediately respond to a request.
