US State Department Reiterates Denial of Involvement in Imran Khan’s Ouster

The US Department of State strongly rejected allegations of American involvement in the ousting of former Prime Minister Imran Khan during a briefing on Wednesday. Spokesperson Matthew Miller emphasized that any legal matters concerning Khan should be resolved by Pakistani courts.

“As we have said many times, the claims that the US played any role in his removal from office are false,” Miller stated. He reiterated that the political situation in Pakistan is ultimately determined by its citizens, in accordance with their own laws and constitution.

Miller also addressed concerns about members of Congress who have urged President Biden to advocate for Khan’s release, noting that these individuals have faced derogatory comments on social media.

He said, “We do not know who is behind circulating that information, but if people have issues with US officials, they should engage on the merits of those issues rather than resorting to personal attacks related to religion or sexual orientation.”

The spokesperson’s comments come amid ongoing discussions about Khan’s political fate and the role of foreign influence in Pakistan’s domestic affairs.

Miller’s remarks highlight the US government’s stance on respecting Pakistan’s sovereignty and legal processes, asserting that external accusations do not reflect the reality of the situation.

As tensions continue to simmer in Pakistani politics, the US maintains that it will not interfere in the legal and political matters of another sovereign nation. The focus remains on encouraging dialogue and a resolution that aligns with the democratic principles upheld by the Pakistani constitution.
