As the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) conference approaches, authorities in Rawalpindi and Islamabad have implemented a detailed traffic plan effective from October 14 to 16. Passengers traveling between the two cities are encouraged to use Ninth Avenue for smoother transit.
The plan entails several road closures and diversions to maintain efficient traffic flow during this high-profile event. Notably, all types of heavy traffic will be restricted within the city limits during the conference.
Over 1,100 traffic officers will be deployed to oversee and facilitate movement throughout this period. The Expressway from Zero Point to Coral Chowk will be closed, necessitating alternative routes for motorists.
For those traveling from Margalla Road to Rawalpindi, Ninth Avenue is the recommended route. Traffic from Faisal Avenue to Zero Point will also be redirected to Ninth Avenue. Passengers coming from Bhara Kahu to Rawalpindi should take Covering Road, Banigala, and Lahtrar Road.
Additionally, travelers from Rawalpindi to Islamabad are advised to utilize Ninth Avenue. Vehicles coming from IJP Road to Faizabad should divert via Stadium Road at the Ninth Avenue Signal. Motorists traveling from Peshawar to Lahore are recommended to use the Motorway from Taxila.
In line with the traffic management plan, the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus Service will be completely suspended from October 14 to October 17, with no service operating between Sadar Station and Pak Secretariat.
Motorists arriving from Peshawar via GT Road should also shift to the Motorway, with an exit option at Chakri Interchange. This traffic plan aims to reduce congestion and ensure the safety and security of all participants at the SCO conference.
