Four Paws Experts to Visit Karachi for Madhubala’s Relocation to Safari Park

The global animal welfare organization Four Paws has announced that its team of elephant experts will soon visit Karachi to facilitate the relocation of Madhubala, an African elephant, to Safari Park.

This visit comes as preparations at the park to create a welcoming environment for elephants have reached their final stages, according to a report by The News.

In a press statement released on Tuesday, Four Paws highlighted that this relocation marks a significant milestone in ensuring a safe and species-appropriate habitat for Madhubala. Once settled in, she will have the opportunity to reunite with her sisters, Malika and Sonia.

Currently, efforts are focused on completing the landscaping of the elephant enclosure, finalizing enrichment features, and continuing the necessary training for all three elephants.

Madhubala has faced mental strain due to solitary confinement at Karachi Zoo since 2023.

Her situation worsened following the death of her companion, Noor Jehan, a 17-year-old female tusker, who passed away earlier in the year due to long-term health issues exacerbated by inadequate living conditions.

In light of these developments, the city administration announced plans for Madhubala’s relocation shortly after Noor Jehan’s passing, citing health risks for the elephant. The exact date for Madhubala’s move to Safari Park will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Four Paws expressed gratitude to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Mayor Murtaza Wahab for his cooperation in this initiative. The organization, along with its partners, is committed to ensuring a smooth and successful relocation, allowing Madhubala to reunite with her family at the Safari Park.
